He wanted to defeat us.

The only way he could defeat us is to get our neck stuck out on his turf. He wanted us to take the place of the Russians.

The only way he could do that would be to pull something so outrageous that we would have no choice but to come after him.

I don't believe for a minute that he thought the US was going to shrivel up and run away. He wanted a war, and he took steps to make absolutely sure he'd get one.

Not everything is that complicated.

No, just the vast majority of things, especially where international political/military agendas and strategies are concerned.

If you perceive someone on the other side of an issue insist on the "straightforward" answer, I wonder if you might call it simplistic.

That wasn't nuance... implying that the US taking out the Taliban and most of AQ's hierarchy was simply part of Osama's plan and that we are precisely where he wants us is simply admiration and/or hero worship.

It's disgusting.
