Day after day we hear presidential hopefuls criticizing America for doing what they call a terrible job in Iraq, and how the Iraqis hate us. Day after day we read that one or two American soldiers have died in Iraq, never mentioning that this whole thing started because 3,000 Americans were murdered on American soil ... leaving literally thousands of orphans, and destroying two landmark buildings in New York, our largest city. Never mentioning that if our courageous military men and women were not doing their dangerous job on foreign soil we would be facing that threat right here at home, right now. What our elite journalists, and our liberal politicians, are missing is that a lot of our military men and women, and our American advisors, are now coming home, and we are hearing first hand what is really going on in Iraq. Sure it is dangerous; there are former Sadaam followers who would like to get us out of there so they can continue in power and they will kill us if they can. But the progress being made in Iraq is incredible, and we are not hearing that except from our returning troops, and sometimes the internet. For instance: All 240 hospitals and 1,200 clinics are now open, the people are now getting pharmaceuticals they never got before, and Iraq's children have received over 22-million vaccinations. All 22 universities and 43 technical schools are open, and so are most of the primary and secondary schools. The central bank is fully independent, and Iraq has a single unified currency for the first time in 15 years. The wheels of free-enterprise commerce are coming to life. About half of that nation's canals, weed choked and useless until we came on the scene, have been cleaned and can again irrigate the farms. That's 8,640 miles of irrigation canals back in action. There are now 170 independent newspapers, free to print what they wish, even anti-American articles, and foreign journalists can come and go as they desire. And nearly all of Iraq's 400 courts are functioning. America is paying a price for this, it is true. But the world is a better place, and this country is safer, because of our troops in Iraq. And in case someone else doesn't mention it, it seems obvious we all face a much better New year than we did this time last year.accessnorthga.com
