Not sure what Koniaki is, but there is a whole cupboard of freaky food out there.

I do not eat meat (but do eat fish) and Japan is heaven for fish-eaters.

My one gripe about Japan is that they do not allow you to buy average/bad food.

I know this sounds odd, so let me explain.

I am used to fruit and veg here in the UK. Now it seems/seemed okay to me. I love my fruit and veg.
In Japan fruit and veg is exorbitant. We have all heard the stories. But here is the catch.
Now maybe as a gaijin I had no idea where to shop, but when I finally paid up 7 USD for the 1/2 pound of grapes they were the most amazing grapes that I had ever tasted. The same for the strawberries and generally this was true of all fruit and veg. I do not like apples but I love fuji apples (these are the ones that are hand-wrapped on the trees while they are ripening to allow them to over-ripen on the branch).
The only conclusion I can draw is that this price must be quite close to the price you pay for non-intensively farmed or natural (whatever) foods.
Fruit in the UK is completely tasteless, due to a complete lack of aroma caused from the intensive farming and just-in-time distribution.

The catch is when you come back from the gym or something do you really want to pay 10 USD to whip up a fresh strawberry and banana smoothie.
No. I would like the choice of buying tasteless fruit sometime. But as I get told by friends, this is because I lack class. LOL.

For now I will have to dodge the farmed fish which is the latest health scare here in the UK. It is also tasteless.
