Lieberman appeals to the all-important independent middle. He's an attractive candidate when he's not parroting the usual class warfare line of the Dem party. But he'd never win because he's Jewish.

I think Edwards is underappreciated. Edwards is a good guy, but he needs a better compaign manager and a clearer message. All these dems got caught in their pro-war vote and they spend way too much time defending that decision. Gore thought that issue was a showstopper when he endorsed Dean. But the thing about Dean is that he has a very direct style, he doesn't make excuses, its right to the point. When Dean changes his mind he just says he changed his mind. Of course some might think that is a bad thing, and there are plenty of times he inserted mouth in foot. But then, Bush has had quite a few gaffes also.
