HP moving manufacturing to top execution state worldwide

Singapore hangs migrant workers claim

By INQUIRER staff: Thursday 15 January 2004, 09:51

HUGE US MULTINATIONAL Hewlett Packard said earlier this week it was going to plunge vast sums of money into outsourcing more manufacturing to city state Singapore.
But according to a report from human rights watcher Amnesty International, Singapore has the highest per capita rate of executions in the world, a fact that's at odds with HP's high profile diversity stance.

Amnesty said the tiny city state uses the death penalty in a disproportionate fashion against migrant workers, drug addicts and poorer people.

It said that it's hanged over 400 people in the last 13 years, which is three times higher, per capita, than number two state, Saudia Arabia. Number three is Belarus, number four Sierra Leone, number five Kurgzystan, and number six Jordan.

Further, Singapore keeps details of its use of the death penalty secret, and won't say how many people are on its death row. µ
