I had a few minutes with an Island paper today, and was thinking of posting to you on this -g- .... i don't know the man well at all, by the way, he just impressed me with a few things he said years ago, it was refreshing to see the fiscal conservative/social libertarian combo out in public .... will he get elected, don't know but i think he probably stands a good chance, he's well liked, remember he got fifty per cent of votes last time, this was quite a swing from the days when Dave Barrett had that riding ... he does have a personal presence, and i've heard him described by locals as an excellent MP [before this] On policy, he better not bring up the two-tier healthcare again, canadians are simply not ready to look at that, it's a political impossibility, doesn't matter what bright idea anybody's got ... only thing you can do is try to make the system work better .... on relations with the US, Iraq invasion et al, he has had sounder judgment than Harper by a long shot, far more in tune with this country, imho ... he is strong on defense, i like that and it's a defense riding too ... this impression of him is from what little i've heard, which is not much .... i do know he's always chafed under party discipline, it's hard to imagine the Liberal machine any better in that respect .... answer to your question, don't know, i'll ask around and actually buy a paper soon as possible ..... cheers
