Include real estate taxes, sales taxes... and you might get above the 40% mark.

Since when is Bush responsible for sales and real estate taxes? The only taxes he is responsible for were lowered under his watch. (Now if he could just do something about the spending).

A middle class person, say someone making 52K, with wife and 2 kids (4 exemptions), no accounting for mortgage interest deduction, real estate, state tax deduction, charitable contributions (which would lower the tax further) would pay federal income tax of 11.6% (just ran it through my payroll program), of course 6.20% SS and 1.45 Medicaid.
