I was pondering the whole MLK day thing the other day. As far as holidays that get you a day off, i think it is the only one that is dedicated do a single man.

Off the top of my head, here are the holidays that always got me a day off:
-New year's day
-President's day (combined washington & lincoln birthday's)
-memorial day
-independence day
-labor day
-Thanksgiving
-Christmas

There's columbus day, but i never got that day off. And well, i guess there is Christmas. i don't know, it just seems out of sorts to be creating holidays in the name of private citizens.

I would propose two far more appropriate holidays

April 15th - everyone gets the day off, *except* government employees. This is the day that they are reminded of who pays them.

Sept 11th - obvious reasons.
