Ten,

re: Wasn't it not too long ago that high fat foods were considered "evil" by the liberal establishment?

I would hardly call the medical establishment the "liberal" establishment, in fact the opposite.

But the new "convervatives" can adapt just about any liberal thing, budget deficits, nation building, grand entitlement programs, as long as their boy is called a "Republican".

There is no "C" left in "R".

John

Tenchusatsu,

Have you read the book?

I have not read the book, but I have read about 5 or 6 similar books, so I haven't felt the need to read it.

I'm reading it right now, and it seems the author is a straight-shooter. He mentions Dr. Atkins and admires him for going against the high-carb establishment, though as a fellow cardiologist he didn't like how the Atkins diet excluded "good carbs" and allowed "bad fats."

My favorite have been the Protein power series, where they discuss ways to get "good carbs" (I am assuming that this author means by this carbs that are not concentrated, of low glycemic index and with some fiber and naturally occuring vitamis). Atkins talks about steak and salad, so he is not completely writing off all the carbs. The way I discovered this alternative nutrition was by discovering "The Zone", the original book when I was browsing in the bookstore. I can't believe it was 9 years ago:

BTW, I just noticed a low carb section in my regular supermarket. Dr. Atkins would be smiling if he were still alive.

I agree about the PC dogma, though. Wasn't it not too long ago that high fat foods were considered "evil" by the liberal establishment?

There is a bit more to that. The environmentalist have really been pushing grain based diet on people, and that has indirectly influenced a lot of establishment people and institutions.
