>>Isn't it at least encouraging that 62 close contacts produced no transmission? <<

Not even close. It looks like the SARS CoV has hired WHO as their PR agent to lull its victims into a false sense of optimism.

Of the 13 infected at the Metropole Hotel, how many were super-spreaders? Of the two recent lab related cases (infected with last years lethal version), how many contacts developed SARS?

The SARS CoV mutates and super spreaders spread SARS. How many transmissions of SARS were in the US last year? How many in Vancouver?

WHO has confirmed ONE case and even with the other two, that everyone in the world knows has SARS, we are talking about contacts of THREE cases, all relatively young with relatively mild cases, EARLY in this season.

I have written up a "Lessons Learned" from last season's outbreak

which should make it abundantly clear that the failure to transmit by the first three mild cases merely means that the sample size is small and it is early in the season.

I have written up a small piece on "More Nonsense?", explaining why the humanized S gene this season will soon lead to more virulent SARS CoVs

Recent report in New Scientist indicates that 10% of rats in index case's apartment are SARS CoV positive. WHO's credibility is definitely taking a beating

It is starting to look like flu in Guangdong this year has parallels with SARS in Guangdong last year

It sounds like it is going from bad to worse in Asia. Now that avian flu is breaking out all over (acknowledged in S Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan, Japan and suspected in China), poultry workers are being urged to get vaccinated against the flu, to avoid people being infected with H3N2 and H5N1 or H5N2 simultaneously. However, there is no H5 vaccine for humans, so they are being urged to be vaccinated against H3N2. However, all of the H3N2 vaccines are against Panama, which offers little protection against Fujian
