I can't enlighten you any more than I can lift Hoover Dam.

Humour me.

Please do tell why you think you understand "French motives" better than, say, myself. Someone who is in daily contact with the French, who follows French media in their own language, etc.

What is it that you understand about these "motives", and how have you come to this conclusion about them?

But can you point to instances of the French trashing German businesses, or Japanese, or Mexican, or Chinese? Those are as much globalization as are US businesses.

Not really.

I cannot think of a single franchise in France from any of the above countries.

If they are indeed attacking businesses of those and other nationalities with as much vigor as they attack American businesses, then I will agree that you are correct and their anger is at globalization, not the US

If the "anger" were against the US as a country, they would attack and/or stage protests in front of the US Embassy, not McDonalds. Surely, in your higher state of enlightenment, you can see that.

Was that your only "understanding" of French "motives"?
