The first question that screed brings to mind is, who is Jane Tompkins? The second question is , who cares? Outside of the fevered straw-man argument experts at NRO and the people who dig bloviating punditry, anyway.

As far as the endlessly recycled "Bush hatred" line, it remains ironic to anyone with a modicum of long-term memory capacity. Political hatred was quite the topical technique during the Clinton years. I guess the official line would be that the ever-influential Jane Tompkins has somehow managed to warp the thought processes of the entire world beyond the US Republican true-believer inner circle. The world outside that inner circle just doesn't understand that enforced reverence is the One True Way when it comes to W.
