Much as it would gall me for Halliburton to benefit from it, I still favor a Mars project.

It will never come to fruition, as the necessary funding won't be approved, but I think putting a man on Mars would be the finest thing we, as a nation, could accomplish.

My two most vivid media memories are of Neil Armstrong stepping onto the moon, and of 9/11, in that order. It would be nice if kids twenty years from now could watch an astronaut (preferably one by the name of "John Carter") step on Mars.

Our government has to provide us with protection against those who would harm us, but there are times (as J.F.K. recognized) that it must provide us with inspiration, as well.

Center for American Progress, a nonpartisan research and educational institute.

I love it when lefty groups describe themselves as non-partisan. LOL!
maroon.uchicago.edu

Reminds me of Big Media's goal to be 'objective'. Yeah right.

re. Halliburton.

When I first heard about the Mars mission, my first reaction was what was the hidden agenda? I see my suspicions were not misplaced.

Moon/Mars Shots: how is it that we supposedly landed astronauts on the moon more than 30 years ago and now we plan to 'do it again' next decade.
So our technology was at such an advanced stage then that we could land humans and get them back, but we have not been able to accomplish this since, and won't till next decade.

Now the drilling equipment to Mars, that sounds like business, but the moon landing and the waving flag was a fairy story.

The Chinese recently announced they were to send astronauts to the moon next decade, and their space program is very active now.

I don't suppose there is any connection btw Chinese and our 'brave new Moon/Mars plan. Suppose the Chinese got a man up there and no footprints/evidence of human landing to be found.

I always get a chuckle about the astronauts on the moon stories, though.
