I understand that. And I think you're addressing THE salient element of this controversy.

Some people go from "Saddam is an armed SOB" to invasion without passing go or collecting $200. Other people think that there are some necessary intervening steps. Each group thinks the other is deranged and/or stupid and/or not acting in the best interests of the country. For lack of an understanding of the difference, they distrust each other and call each other names. Or say "what's the difference?." That's what this is all about in a nutshell.

I've always said that controversy is about a difference in defaults.
