Manned space flight is not the same as space flight. Science gets much more bang for the buck out of unmanned space flight. Including a human along for the ride is needless and vastly more expensive. It is political. It is a photo-op. You might not like it -- but there it is. We have an unmanned exploration vehicle on mars today, doing great work. Sending a person there instead will slow down progress by diverting money from far more cost-effective unmanned programs.
