You mean take him at face value? He did say he'd still vote for Bush in November, no? Not only that, but he's now saying he wants to take back that "blind man in a room full of deaf people" quote of his.

Personally, I think O'Neill said lots of things that he felt like saying at the heat of the moment, but now wishes he hadn't said, particularly as Democrats are running away with it in their Hate Bush campaign. That's simpler for me to believe than what the Dems are making out of the book.
