Switzerland: Record glacier melt

Swiss glaciers retreated last year at a pace not seen since systematic record keeping began in 1880, and the melting was a result of prolonged recent climate warming, not Europe's scorching summer heat wave, the Swiss Academy of Natural Sciences said. Some glaciers retreated nearly 500 feet, the Academy said.
