The great thing about amateur websites is they don't clog old or new browsers and you can find stuff fast. It's great for printing too. I notice Mercator had frames so you cannot link to pages, which is a drawback. Also they had no pictures, no company resumes of personnel, and the list of news releases was not dated. At least they had it in text as well as pdf which aids printability. So simple and stupid is good for some things. I would rather search a 100 Mercator websites than ten smarmy ones with javascript or java menus with flash postcards.

What a lot of company websites lack is a search-this-site tool that searches all text on the site with soundex, almost matching, included in, combo or plus-minus and/or searches. There is no excuse for not having this, as search tools like Harvest are free. Alpha Index link pages and heirarchical taxonomy pages are great, and possibly the fastest ways to search a site. Few people have them and they are dead easy to produce.
