Arnold can only carry California, if jobs come back to California. Illegal immigrants allowed to work legally is a good thing for California growers. But the state also has high tech and biotech. If jobs return to these sectors, then State revenues will increase and that would be sufficient to solve California's problems. I don't think the Californian expects money to be handed to the State by the Center. All they are asking for is jobs and to stop the bleeding of jobs to India, China etc.

Hawk, I have maintained that the Iraq war was a misstep on Bush's part. That region is very complicated politically. Previous American Presidents, who were very savvy in comparison to this one, followed a policy of containing Saddam and not toppling him in order to maintain the political balance in that region. However, the Bush Administration with no experience in foreign affairs and with their cowboyish approach, proceeded to topple Saddam, with the excuse that he was a greater terrorist threat than Osama!! Now we have a political storm brewing with Ayatollah Sistani demanding that the US quit Iraq and leave Iraq to the Iraqis to conduct their democratic elections with the "one man one vote" approach. The US in the meantime has gone back to the UN (the organization that the US thumbed their noses at and the organization people like you and hordes of others ridiculed).. The storm is brewing. Stay tuned. Let us hope that the storm does not reach the White House in November 2004. I rest my case.
