They could put their investments into bonds.

As far as stocks go, the 400 people did good because of their investments.

Some type of index fund, could be an answer to the (valid) issue you bring up - over time index funds have done better than bonds.


Bonds or some other conservative investment vehicle makes the most sense. I think mutual funds are too risky.........many a fund manager proved to be leaning the wrong way when the Naz bubble burst.
