Well, he made a bald statement. Now you're saying he really didn't mean it.

Then we can't know what else in his article he did and didn't mean.

I tend to avoid polemic from either of the extremes. His article was clearly from one extreme. No intent to be balanced. One can make a case for anything one wants to if one is sufficiently willing to avoid facts that don't fit into one's preconception. After all, there are still people who believe the earth is flat. And there are even still people who deny the existence of God. Go figure.

It's worth keeping in mind that Congress approved both the war and the Patriot Act. By large majorities. Furthermore, in regard to the war resolution, I recall that Congress included numerous reasons for passing within the language of the resolution. And these reasons were not limited to WMD's - they included Iraq's support for terrorist organizations, repression of it's citizens, attempting to assassinate ex-President Bush in 1993. It even cited the Iraq Liberation Act passed by Congress in 1998:

Whereas the Iraq Liberation Act (Public Law 105-338) expressed the sense of Congress that it should be the policy of the United States to support efforts to remove from power the current Iraqi regime and promote the emergence of a democratic government to replace that regime;
