My immigrant ancestors came to USA over 150yrs ago.

I would set same standard for First Lady as the President. Law stipulates that U.S. president must be American-born.

You're plenty American for me, Kumar. When I see those commercials with all the different looking people saying "I am an American," I always get tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat. Dang, I'm doing it again.

If you wanna be one of us, I, for one, am proud to have you here.

And I hope someday your kid gets elected President.

She is expressing the sort of patronizing racism which characterizes the liberal mindset.

Please define "American" for me.

Some would say 1st or 2nd gen immigrants are the most "American" Americans... taking a Jindal over a Dean any day.

Please define "American" for me.

A US citizen.

There are other book definitions, some language related and some covering a larger geographical area or geo-political population. But folks today who call themselves an American mean they are a US Citizen.

unless one is native american, one is either an immigrant, or the descendant of an immigrant.

Even if one is a "native American" one is the descendant of an immigrant.
