I think the Christianity of our founding fathers tends to be overstated:

Though I agree with you that, among believers, the "all religions are equally valid" thing is hogwash. For example, Bush's statement that Islam is one of the world's "great religions" is ludicrous.

If you are a Christian, you believe that there is but one God and the only way to Him is through Jesus. Thus, ALL other religions are false religions (Islam in particular, given that it not only rejects Christ as our Savior, but sets up a false prophet as the final prophet).

If you do not believe in any religion, on the other hand, then of course they are all equal in your eyes.

Prolife,

After thousands yrs of religious wars(including current War on Terror) why is it so difficult for some human beings to understand that all religions are man made? How can anyone believe that the supreme being that created the Earth would then set in motion everlasting warfare due to religous differences by the planet's inhabitants? It is irrational to believe an all powerful creator would annoint the Christian religon(or any other) as the chosen one but then allow other competing religious institutions which naturally led to crusade-like clashes. As the human race evolved from superstitious pagan worship into other forms of worship(according to their location on earth) the many different religous institutions dotting the globe today were formed. If you can identify one of those faiths as truly all-loving & all-inclusive of the others without malice towards groups different than their own, I would agree that one is the "one-true" faith; however, the fact that all religions compete like children in the "mine is better than yours" category, makes me draw the conclusion that they were all originally created by humans. The Creator does not approve of the never-ending mayhem claimed to be waged on her/his/it's(??) behalf.
