I know the pundits and the administration like to point to the Dow Jones and the NASDAQ performance as a barometer each day but they should check with "Doug Jones" who got laid off and can't find work. I cannot afford to keep my COBRA Insurance so I am without coverage. I am a Vietnam Veteran who is watching in awe as this draft dodger chicken hawk administration takes our country into unilateral invasions of countries who actually pose much less threat to us than they would like to convince us. I will vote for ANYONE besides Bush and Cheney. This is the worst President of my 56 years! Mission Viejo, CA -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I stopped working in 1998 after a 2nd go-round with breast cancer. My cobra ran out in August, 1999 and the only option open to me was HIPPA insurance. The original cost was $545/month; I paid 30% of the negotiated fee if I went to physicians on the Blue Cross list. Prescription drugs cost $25 for name brand and $10 for generic. I helped to work on a bill in CA that lowered the cost of this insurance and put a cap on how much it could be raised. Currently I am paying $728/month and pay 40% of the negotiated fee. Many of my physicians dropped out of Blue Cross becuse the reimbursement rates were obscenely low. I have applied continually for regular insurance but continue to be turned down - not because I had cancer, but because of the drugs I take! The new medicare/prescription drug bill is a hoax on the American people. The only folks to benefit are the insurance companies and the pharmaceutical companies. Santa Barbara, CA -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Medicare has to be looked into. I am a senior getting 1044.00 a month. We just got the annual raise to 1,125.60. Medicare is taking 66.60 of it that leaves me about zip.Big deal, I'm getting $15.00 more to live on. I am trying to stay independent and live in my home. Is there anyone in government that lives on that per month? How do you expect us to live on it? I'm in my 70's and have worked since I wa 15 yrs old...don't you think I deserve more than that? Soc.Sec is my only income. Nothing from the job I worked at for 21 years. They, like all the rest, just "took thier money and ran" Montclair, CA -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have been teaching in California for more than ten years. I graduated from the University of California, Riverside with honors, was elected Phi Beta Kappa, and have a Masters in Education. Now, because of "No child left behind", I'm deemed to be unfit for teaching as I haven't taken the appropriate test. This unfunded mandate is destroying morale of veteran teachers who already feel the joy of teaching has gone because of so much emphasis on testing. We've turned a whole generation of kids off to learning. It's really a shame. I fear for the future of my grandchildren. Beaumont, CA -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, Computer Programmer, College Graduate, and am unemployed. I've been laid off more times than I can recall. I'm 53, single, and can't afford to buy my first home nor save for retirement. Thanks to Bush, more and more technical jobs are being shipped overseas and now he wants to open up jobs to Mexico. Why? Because he's rich, and all he cares about is how to make the rich richer. What we have is Bush's new legal slavery. He's giving American jobs to those who are forced to work long hours for little or no pay, so that the rich can make more money on the sweat and troubles of the poor. It's Bush's own "legalized" slavery! Make no mistake, Bush cares ONLY for the rich and powerful. President Bush has no concern for US citizens who need jobs, who need decent wages, who need affordable healthcare, affordable housing and lower taxes. He has proven himself to be wholly irresponsible fiscally. He spends like a madman and brought us to war by telling us lies. We’ve lost so many rights, we need to ask if our future holds a police state. Meanwhile, CEOs continue to steal American's blind. There are more of us than the rich who steal from us and lie to us....To save our lives, we MUST get Bush out of the White House! Oceanside, CA -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When Bush took office I had a job in the movie business and made 40,000 a year. I had a great health plan and 15,000 in the bank and no credit card debt. Now I have no job, no health care, no savings and 2,500 credit card debt. Greed is destroying America. Los Angeles, CA
