Al, what in the world justifies making these cuts permanent in the face of a fiscal crisis of gargantuan proportions upon which everyone agrees?

Bush is working off of the assumption that tax cuts will increase income tax revenue by virtue of a stimulated economy. (No need to bring in the extreme case of no taxes; I am fully aware of the curve.)

With that in mind, Bush seems to be spending money that he hopes will be coming in the future. This is the only defense I could think of for the huge double-digit percentage increase in federal spending, and it's rather weak. In fact, I'm considering in joining the right-wing backlash if Bush doesn't shape up his act.
