I came to understand the problem in about '81, when a former chief actuary for SSA wrote an excellent article on the subject in the New York State CPA Journal. Since that time, I've never had unanswered questions about SS.

Perhaps you could find it and read it. I doubt you'd understand it still, but it would be start.
