I believe they are set at certain speed over the limit and if triggered..... *FLASH* Smile, you just got a ticket.... most tickets, after certain amount of miles over the speed limit are.... A$200.00 AND..... they rack points (serious in Australia, they told me) and after a certain amount of points.... kaput, your license is suspended... no buts, ifs, or court appeals.... as it seems... nobody fights them since it seems (again, hearsay) no one wins... it is in the picture, and that's it. A$200.00 please. sooooo... I calculated with my driving.... considering lucky breaks, fuzzy camera lenses, and whaever other mitigating possible circumstances... i would be toast in 6 months.... tops. which it surprised me as I thought the Aussies to be more of a tough guy type of environment... it turned out to be quite the "motherland" socialist thing... and NZ seems to be even worse, although I have not been there. On the positive side.... they have some incredible pubs, where EVERYONE sings along with the band(s) and have a lot of fun.... Aussie beer, for the most part seems "ok" at least they do drink it cold, opposite to their grandpa's the Brits, who drink the stuff at room temperature and it tastes like.... well, what I would imagine burro's piss would taste.. (which, i have never) their white wines (chardonay) are good, their red wines.... well unfortunately, some marketing guy convinced them they make good red wine.... *&^%$##$^ they need at least another 10 years to get rid of some strange Viking tendencies that emanate when you drink the stuff; it sort of leads you to produce thoughts of pilferage & conquest where the vassals come and destroy everything in sight and the only think that quenches your thirst, fittingly with the barbarian ways is.... barbarian wine (read Australian red wine) it is green, rough and yako-wacko what would help is the hiring of Italian, Spanish and French wine masters so they can learn to produce it... they do have all of the raw materials for it... it is simply not there yet
