Even the radical right-wing imperialists at AEI admit the truth: urging him to undertake major reforms to avert a civil war So Reagan suggested Marcos step down and allow a slightly more moderate elitist government to take his place, rather than allowing the revolution take place which would bring about a truly popular government. That is standard damage control in manipulating 3rd-World countries. If I were charitable, I'd say you had gullibly not noticed on this tactic. But, it's more likely you knew this.
