Joe, so the cap gains, i.e. the appreciation of the home between when you buy and when you sell, is tax-free? Was it taxed before Clinton? And does this apply to 2nd homes as well?

My wife and I just had an offer for a house accepted recently. We're paying more than we originally thought we can afford in order to move into a nicer house in a nicer neighborhood. We realize we're paying sky-high prices, but we're hoping the demand for houses in the neighborhood remains high even in a downturn.
