Interesting. Joseph and Mary, subjects of colonial Roman empire compelled to pay taxes through no choice of their own, not even a choice of their own country, but a distant emperor, and this suddenly becomes part of Christian teaching?

I think the subjects of Christianity and taxes are unrelated.
