Sounds like VLGC's strategy of a very small sales force to pick the low hanging fruit. That didn't work too well.

Or the company I worked for: It spun off a division to compete in the marketplace and gave it a 10 year $1B contract. The division's "strategic" advantage was to have NO professional sales force. It lasted about 3 years before being sold to a competitor by the parent.

I think I'm biased against companies that think they can save money by not having competent sales people.
