Here's how to balance the budget:

I'd slash and burn the military budget...
Raise taxes on corporations and the rich (removing all the Shrub tax-cuts)...
Kill the pharma benefits bill, impose regulations on drug pricing and losen up the rules on generics.
Put in measures to control medical costs, such as regulations on pricing of services.
Impose tarrifs on goods imported from China, and other cheaper far-east nations, conditioning their removal on improving pay, benefits and EH&S for their workers (to level the playing field).
Raise or levy taxes on gasoline, guns, SUVs and booze.

After all that's done...
Consider putting in a universal health care and daycare systems.

Of course, none of your politicians (funded by corporations) have the balls to do any of this stuff.
