But hard to sell to some people.'

I think that a lot of people are just focused on fairness. Just as I generally look first for the side the provides the most freedom and/or the side that is the most efficient, they look for fairness. They think that life should be fair and that it's noble to try to even things out. They want some authority like God or the President or the boss or the police to make things fair.

I think that these outlooks are very much a part of who we are, what experiences we've had. I know why I'm oriented the way am. Maybe they all had a dozen siblings and that's why they focus on fairness. Who knows. Anyway, those perspectives can't be reasoned away. It really isn't fair that Americans should lose their jobs because there are people in India who can do the work cheaper. So for folks who are fairness-oriented, you can see why they come down where they do.
