I don't know much about component sourcing or pricing, but would expect that Emachines is on top of sourcing. The management team has top exec's recruited from from Best Buy, Intel, Compaq, and Apple.

Somebody more knowledgeable than I could probably have a better insight into component quality. If one prefers to have a new computer every few years buying a low priced Emachine may be the way to go. I am not a power user so it would work for me.
