< Their focus is always on GWB's illegal war. It is never on Hussain's victims. Iraq is as much or more about VMD (Victims of Mass Destruction) than it is about WMD. Hussain ruthlessly used a variety of weapons - from torture to rope to guns to knives to brute force to airplanes to helicopters to tanks in slaughtering thousands and thousands of his people.
No, no, no....
I believe that the problems many have, yes, myself included is that the American government tends to conveniently put their reasons in front of the press and the --who gives a rat's arse general public-- as the reasons that are to be taken as absolute fact and law...
Never mind that....
THEY supported at one time, Saddam... Noriega... Somoza, even Osama BL... and many others.... the very same KILLERS they now (and then) the US had to go and save the word from...
THEN... they think that by saying ooops... and go and invade it, bomb it, assault it, thinking ah we will simply fix it... it is "OK"
Well it is NOT “OK"
It also does not help that they are using the young lives of American soldiers as cannon and shield... and "it is "OK” because it is the patriotic thing to do...
Some of us... no, not all of us are liberals, communists, radicals... or whatever other label you use, etc. have a problem with that.
Yes... PARTICULARLY, when the government pretends to have us believe we are dumb and ignorant.... --that particularly pisses me off to no end from the politicians
I am stepping on limb, as I really do not care to get into a debate as to the "validity" of the American presence in Iraq or many of the other policies that at least to me seem quite blind.
My real point is that there are a lot of people out there that do not particularly see the use of the army as the best route or solution to a problem.... once again, particularly when the problem was originated by the USA in the first place (by placing these gorillas in a position of power without any form of "checks & balances")
One that is in place... political speeches are all the same bullshit, just to cover their red naked arse.
So... did Bush mislead people... in my mind, no doubt about it.... the real reason is not only the oil but what lies beyond that...
Don't just tar me because I do not agree to what the government says I should, just because it could mean a non-unified front... or because someone is going to think I am not "supporting” the soldiers.... it has nothing to do with that at all...
It is more with NOT ignoring my own instinct.
Attempt to understand that the US is NOT alone in this world and whatever actions the US takes, affects everyone.... everyone else who DOES NOT live within these borders... so just listen... and reason...
The USA is the undisputed only superpower left standing... unless such power is used wisely... we are going to have a lot of pissed off people at our doorstep... do we want that? Can we afford that? Is it necessary to be in such a spot?

"[A] book to be read and to be taken seriously.… Brzezinski has written a book that is often intriguing and contains many accurate analyses and assessments." Helmut Schmidt Foreign Policy
"Regardless of the reader's politics, [this] study is compulsory reading." Richmond Times-Dispatch
"Brzezinski's reach is breathtaking … in a masterly fashion, he takes the reader on a trip around the world in 200 pages.… The Grand Chessboard is a fascinating book, and a disturbing one in the best sense of the term." The National Interest
"The great merit of this volume lies in its analysis of the strategic outlook and policy dilemmas of a host of states in Eurasia, a tour d'horizon lucidly rendered. Brzezinski's analysis of the triangular relationship among China, Japan, and America—together with the policy recommendations flowing therein—is particularly good." Foreign Affairs
"In his slim, but impressive, tour d'horizon, [Brzezinski] is as focused and energetic as ever … a provocative book in the best sense of the word." Newsweek
"Not everyone will agree that the U.S. must 'perpetuate [its] own dominant position for at least a generation and preferably longer,' but former National Security Adviser Brzezinski offers a meticulously detailed argument for how and why we should … While it seems ambitious to attempt this much ground in a short work, Brzezinski succeeds." Publishers Weekly
"The Grand Chessboard is the book we have been waiting for: a clear-eyed, tough-minded, definitive exposition of America's strategic interests in the Post–Cold War world. A masterful synthesis of historical, geographical, and political analysis, it is geostrategic thinking in the grand tradition of Bismarck." Samuel P. Huntington author of The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order
Description As the twentieth century draws to a close, the United States has emerged as the world's only superpower: no other nation possesses comparable military and economic power or has interests that bestride the globe. Yet the critical question facing America remains unanswered: What should be the nation's global strategy for maintaining its exceptional position in the world? Zbigniew Brzezinski tackles this question head-on in this incisive and pathbreaking book. The Grand Chessboard presents Brzezinski's bold and provocative geostrategic vision for American preeminence in the twenty-first century. Central to his analysis is the exercise of power on the Eurasian landmass, which is home to the greatest part of the globe's population, natural resources, and economic activity. Stretching from Portugal to the Bering Strait, from Lapland to Malaysia, Eurasia is the "grand chessboard" on which America's supremacy will be ratified and challenged in the years to come. The task facing the United States, he argues, is to manage the conflicts and relationships in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East so that no rival superpower arises to threaten our interests or our well-being.The heart of The Grand Chessboard is Brzezinski's analysis of the four critical regions of Eurasia and of the stakes for America in each arena—Europe, Russia, Central Asia, and East Asia. The crucial fault lines may seem familiar, but the implosion of the Soviet Union has created new rivalries and new relationships, and Brzezinski maps out the strategic ramifications of the new geopolitical realities. He explains, for example:
Why NATO expansion offers Russia the chance to undo the mistakes of the past, and why Russia cannot afford to toss this opportunity aside. Why the fate of Ukraine and Azerbaijan are so important to America. Why viewing China as a menace is likely to become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Why America is not only the first truly global superpower but also the last—and what the implications are for America's legacy. Brzezinski's surprising and original conclusions often turn conventional wisdom on its head as he lays the groundwork for a new and compelling vision of America's vital interests. Once, again, Zbigniew Brzezinski provides our nation with a philosophical and practical guide for maintaining and managing our hard-won global power. Biography Zbigniew Brzezinski served as National Security Adviser to the President of the United States from 1977 to 1981. He is a counselor at the Center for Strategic and International Studies and a professor of American foreign policy at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University in Washington, D.C. His most recent books are Out of Control, The Grand Failure, Game Plan, and Power and Principle.
