JF, And... "what factors" should taxes depend on?

I've given this some thought, and it basically boils down to three factors when it comes to taxes:

- The economy
- The ability of the average American to pay
- The amount of federal spending

Of course, all three factors are tied together, like legs on a stool. As long as all three legs are even, we have stability. It doesn't matter whether those legs are all "long" or all "short," if you catch my drift, as long as there is a balance.
