I was thinking more about driving full blast down skinny country lanes --

those are the fun ones.... until you find a piece of farm equipment doing 30 mph ---on a blind corner...

aaaah those were the days ! lol

My wife won't drive in the UK (mainly because of the country roads) I grew up in the Yorkshire dales and love 'em. To give you an example from where I grew up that's all you had all the way to the East coast or West coast. When I came to the US I was much more intimidated by the NJ turnpike.
Especially coming over the bridge through the toll gates, it reminded me of a star line at a motor cross.

Reagarding the british driving test - it used to last a full hour, and the route covered most of the highway code. Don't look over your shoulder at the right time and your done for the day. Then they throw in 1/2 dozen manouvers, including parallel parking (again look over your shoulder), reversing around a corner (better keep the wheels within 6 inches of the curb.
I remember doing the test in NY, I couldn't believe it was that easy. A multiple choice, 10 minutes driving and a three point turn in a super wide street? In America you got to get your training on the job.
