This Patriot Act surprises me. What surprises me is that some pundits and do nothing dogooders call it so Draconian and such an attack on our personal liberties. Well, personally, I DONT FEEL ATTACKED, I dont KNOW ANYONE WHO FEELS ATTACKED, I DO KNOW people who feel SAFER as do I. So if the Dems want to make an issue out of something that protects the people, SO BE IT, we WILL EXTRACT OUR REVENGE. jdn

How about just providing REAL SECURITY by assuring the safety of nuclear plants, chemical plants, and the unchecked cargo containers coming in to our nation from foreign lands... before pretending to have 'security' with the Patriot Act --- and the Patriot Act II provisions the admin. wants to slip through Congress? Now, admittedly, 80% of the Patriot Act (allowing individuals to be wiretapped, instead of static phone numbers, etc.) consists of a rational updating of police powers to accommodate technology changes in our modern society.... Perhaps 10% of it is 'questionable' (is it worth the trade-off in American's liberty? Does the cost-benefit ratio scan right? Are the burdens placed on business too costly, etc.?) While some 5% to 10% of it is A PURE UNADULTERATED ORWELLIAN POWER GRAB BY BIG BROTHER BUREAUCRATS... and offers little, if anything, in real 'security' to mitigate the nightmare of it's Authoritarianism. Clearly, it needs reform.
