"...Crossing a U.S. border without a visa is a misdemeanor under federal law, and reentering the U.S. after a prior order of deportation is a felony. Under Bush’s proposal, these crimes will not be prosecuted, and that means it is an amnesty."

>>> Yep. It is.

Funny I dont see it that way at all. Remember, these workers here LEGALLY OR OTHERWISE are currently working either above or below the table. What Bush proposes is an ORDERLY WAY to LEGALIZE them. The CARROT on the stick to the workers is ultimate documentation as a USA citizen or at least a green card holder. The ADVANTAGE to the USA is:
1. Presumable ween out the legitament workers (legal or otherwise) from the balance of illegal aliens.
2. Deport the balance as found
3. Increased tax revenue as these now Illegals will have to be employed pretty much above the table as they are legalized.

I cannot see how this hurts the USA economy, remember we have them here whether we like it or not and they AINT GOING so long as they can work and WE AINT DEPORTING THEM cause WE CANT. jdn
