Karen, I was ribbing you a bit today. We actually agree on alot but not everything. I do like the nixon negative income tax thought. It bridged welfare to minimum wage and then minimum wage to tax free or even tax rebated income--all done to incent the slackers as you call them into the work force. Folks had problems with it and it never passed. It is time for some form of it even without the rebates that will never fly. You can do it either by exempting the first 10k/20k(whatever) of income form fica or raising the amount earned before taxes kick in. This is a great tax cut for the poor and an enabler for the middle class. You should be for it but perhaps you are too wedded to "flat" just as liberals are wedded to "progressive" when it comes to income tax. Do you have a thing for Steve Forbes? Mike
