Is Wahhabi the state sponsored religion? Yes Are all of the princes, and King Fahd Wahhabi fanatics no. Are some of the royal family involved with the fanatics; yes. Is there a good possibility, that if we overthrew the kingdom, established a democratic gov, that an even more fanatic Wahhabi regime would be elected to take its place? Yes The Wahabism form of Islam is the central religion of SA in much the same way the Church of England is the state religion of England. All of the Saudi monarchy practice this particular form of Islam and permit the Wahabi leaders to set the moral tone for SA. Its about as likely that the Wahabi leaders will overthrow the Saudi princes as it is leaders from the Church of England will overthrow Tony Blair. It may be true that some Saudi princes are not as conservative in their religious practices as mainstream Wahabis but the Saudi monarchy, all 4k members, believe that Wahabism sets the best religious tone for SA. What's most disturbing to me is that you and DR are so sure that what we are doing in Iraq is the best thing for Iraq and the ME when you clearly don't understand something as key and fundamental as Wahabism and its relationship with the Saudi monarchy. And unfortunately, our gov't is making no effort to change that lack of understanding. We are like a bunch of American kids who have come upon a bee hive, think its a normal bee hive and for fun, decide to pop it open. Only after they have hit the hive with a stick and broken it, do they realize the bees are Africanized and that they are in serious danger. Thanks to the misguided efforts of GW in Iraq, we are in similar danger.......in fact, more serious danger than we were before Saddam was disposed. And now, all we can do is wait and see what and when the second shoe will drop......the first shoe having been 9/11. ted
