I guess most would have qualified for welfare depending on state of residence. Now that the welfare system is fixed, it would probably work well. Think of what the extra takehome would mean for folks at or about minimum wage. It is a great idea imo and the alternative is my fica exemption now that fica is over 7% or so. Someone makes 14k per year, that $1200 would be a lifesaver. I as a high income earner would be happy to give back 1% at the high bracket for something like this. I agree with bush tax cuts in principle but slight adjustments for the common good in a time of apparent growth and high unemployment would be both a good political move as well as the right thing to do. It would shut the democrats up for sure. They couldnt oppose this, could they? That was nixons logic back then when he said he was a keynsian too. Mike
