fairly popular Milton Friedman's quote but unfortunately it is not exactly 100% accurate. Trade deficit can not be treated as future contracts on american made consumer goods - it works well as proxy explanation why trade deficit may not be as scary as it looks but that is pretty much it.

re: predatory business practices, for example, "dumping"

I, per say, do not even have a big problem with dumping that is unless I hold shares of the competitors. The problem is government control (via laws) and I do recall that Milton wrote on that topic too<ggggg>
