Perversely, the intervention is causing the USD to drop and yen to surge, by driving down bond yields. Private foreign bond holders just sell to the BOJ, and get back into their own currencies (and tangible commodities*). I think it's been happening all along, now escalating. Central banks (primarily one, the BOJ) are the only significant buyers of US treasuries and agencies left. What a way to run a world economic system.

* Gold's been slightly spooked by the Bundesbank talk, but look at silver, copper, PGMs.
