Hollowing out'

Instead of representing a stronger, growing economy, he said, higher productivity as jobs decline shows what he calls the ``hollowing out'' of corporations that fire valuable labor.

During the expansions of the 1960s and late 1990s, productivity rose with gains in employment, he said. Now it is rising amid job losses.
