The H5N1 situation is pretty scary - it's like a ticking thermonuclear device. May never go off, but if it does it could be catastrophic.

We are nearing the end of the human 'flu season in the Northern hemisphere, so if recombination in a human host infected with both strains is indeed the only way it recombines, then we may still be lucky, at least for this year.
