Britain might be next on the Axis-of-Evil blacklist!!One in five 'don't want a Jew as Pm' 23-01-2004By Tim Ross and Jamie Lyons PA News: Almost one in five Britons do not want a Jewish Prime Minister, according to a poll published today. And one in seven think the scale of the Holocaust has been exaggerated, the ICM survey for the Jewish Chronicle found. Home Secretary David Blunkett told the newspaper the results were "worrying and very depressing". The opinion poll found 18% disagreed with the statement that a Jewish Prime Minister would be "equally acceptable" to a leader from any other faith. Just over half - 53% - agreed. Asked whether "Jews have too much influence in this country", 18% agreed while less than half of those questioned rejected the view. The majority - 72% - disagreed with the idea that the scale of the Holocaust against the Jews by the Nazis had been exaggerated. But 15% said they thought the Holocaust had been overstated. Those most likely to hold this view tended to be over the age of 65 or 24 and under, the survey found. Mr Blunkett explained his concerns: "It means people are prepared to set aside not only the evidence, but the overwhelming emotion that goes with it. "They delude themselves into believing that the Nazis are not what we know them to be, and this is very depressing." Jewish Chronicle editor Ned Temko said it was "disturbing" and "depressing" that some people doubted the facts of the Holocaust. Lord Janner, chairman of the Holocaust Educational Trust and vice-president of the World Jewish Congress, also expressed his concern. He said it was "very sad" such a large minority held racist views. He told BBC Radio 4's Today programme the poll showed how much work had to be done to tackle anti-semitism. "We have got to fight racism of any sort against whomever it is directed," he said. He said opposition to a Jewish Prime Minister was "extraordinary" given that Britain had already had one in Disraeli. The Daily Telegraph reported that the findings could deal a blow to Michael Howard's chances of entering Number 10, pointing out that the Tory leader was a member of a liberal synagogue. ICM interviewed 1,007 adults across mainland Britain.muslimnews.co.uk Now, the following statement carries a somewhat sinister undertone: [Lord Janner] told BBC Radio 4's Today programme the poll showed how much work had to be done to tackle anti-semitism. What does Lord Janner mean by "work"?? Perhaps more anti-Semitic provocations... to sway British opinion against Muslims and instil empathy for Israel? After the Mossad's attack on UK facilities in Istanbul, we can be sure that Sharon won't flinch from yet another anti-UK bloodshed to get his fellow Howard in 10 Downing Street....
