CB, the only time I've had a problem with the state and covering of sexual parts was when the representative of state power in Hull, Quebec, required us to cover our 10 month old son's genitals while on a beach [at a lake]. My sister laughed and carried a 'fig' leaf in front of the offending part as he walked up the beach to us, to the beachgoers' amusement. That was about his first introduction to stupid statist authority.

At primary school, the state required we boys get naked in school swimming pool changing sheds, which was embarrassing because Willie Caughey [I've never before thought of his first name, but now I realize it's a giggle] had man-sized genitalia. Inadequate types like me were somewhat overawed. But we survived the trauma [as far as I can tell anyway]. I wasn't happy about it, but just went along with state power because they would beat us with sticks or straps if we didn't comply. Anyway, if I moaned, the other boys would have given me hell [though Willie was the only one with a real willie - the rest of us were inadequate so had safety in numbers]. Being teacher's pet wasn't a good thing to be. Putting a drawing pin on a teacher's chair was excellent and admired rebellion [though I don't recall ever doing that myself].

I don't know what went on in the girls' changing shed because we couldn't peek over. Maybe there was mortification there too. The main job of schools is to teach people to accept suppression and capricious authority. Forcing students to go naked would really show people who's boss. Good suggestion CB. But maybe schools know going that far would get rebellion - there are limits to state power which will cause insurrection.

I think there's a difference between a scarf over a head and what is almost universally considered a human modesty = covering of the pubic in public.

I didn't say they are nutcases to resent state imposition on clothing. I'm in favour of people wearing what they like. All I meant was your description was over the top.

I'd be interested to see whether the girls would rather go without a scarf or clothes covering their special bits. I bet they'd cover their bits first.
