Let me see........which is better......taxes that are used for gov't spending to build roads and the like, or borrowing to pay the interest on gov't debt?

What about taxing to pay the interest on debt or borrowing to build the road.

I was talking about high taxes or high borrowing both being harmful to the private sector. What the money is spent on is a separate issue. One worth talking about but the two points should not be entangled and confused.
