In my humble opinion, the answer to that question depend a great deal on what "this" is. That is, what exactly the goal was in invading Iraq...

To look at two options:

If US invaded Iraq to oust Saddam, the goal is already reached. Call for elections, stay long enough to insure their safety and validity, then leave.

If the goal is to make sure the elections install a US-friendly government that will stay that way, the answer is much more complicated, and frankly, I cannot see how success can be quaranteed. What are you going to do if Iraqis democratically elect a religious fundamentalist government?
